Separation technologies
How can we ensure that the left eye does not see the image on the right? There are three main types of technology:
- VR masks
- Active technology
- Passive technology
VR MasksThe separation is physical. Dedicated optics isolate each eye in front of a screen divided into two.

Active technologyLCD shutter glasses synchronize with the screen (which alternates between left and right images at high frequency). The eye is blocked when the opposite image is displayed. |
|
Passive technologyPolarization Light is filtered according to axes (vertical/horizontal or circular). The glasses act like “blinds,” allowing only one type of wave to pass through each eye.
Anaglyph Use of colored filters (red/cyan). This is the simplest and least expensive method, although it degrades colorimetry. |
